This was our second cruise with Pied Piper. They do an excellent job. Lyman and Dennis, our cruise hosts, were very good. We had cruised with Lyman to Alaska. This tour group had about 100 people, mostly gay men with some families and a few lesbian couples. By far, most of the group was in long time relationships with the average age being around 40….
What to do in Hawaii
Hawaii is all about the scenery and beauty. Above all, I recommend that you spend time on some of the beautiful black, green or white sand beaches. As I mentioned previously, Hawaii, Kauai and Maui are prime locations with 4 and 5 star resorts. We saw some beautiful resorts north of Kona along the lava flats that are featured in the Iron Man Triathlon. Hawaii…
Hawaii in Review
I thought I would spend a few blog entries reviewing the cruise. Today, I’ll cover the islands and my impressions. Hawaii, the big island, had two distinct flavors. Hilo sat on the dry side of this island and was not very interesting. It had a lot of commercialism but didn’t offer a real Hawaiian experience. People mostly venture there to see Volcanoes National Park, which…
April 20, 2006 – Thursday – At Sea
The last two days have been very relaxing and peaceful at sea. The sea is quite calm and it has been very sunny. My morning walk around the top deck was very windy though. I was beat after 35 minutes. We’ve pretty much been lying by the pool, sitting on the veranda, eating and gambling. I did OK last night at blackjack, breaking even after…
April 18, 2006 – Tuesday – Lahaina, Hawaii (Maui)
It’s easy to see why celebrities chose Maui as a place to live. It has the beauty of Kauai, plus large amounts of restaurants, shopping and resorts. We spent the day exploring Lahaina, a former Hawaiian whaling center. It sort of reminded us of a New England beach village with palm trees backed up against volcanic cliffs and mountains. This was an excellent port to…
April 17, 2006 – Monday – Honolulu, Hawaii (Oahu)
Today was the warmest day yet with pure sun and mid-80s. We purposely did not book any excursions. We wanted a quiet day to explore and relax. We debated on Pearl Harbor but waited too long. We were glad we had not booked it after we learned members of our group spent the whole day there waiting their turn to see the Arizona Memorial. We…
April 16, 2006 – Sunday – Kauai Hawaii (The Garden Isle)
This is Hawaii! We spent 7 hours today on an excursion, The Na Pali Explorer. We had initially decided not to take this recommended excursion but changed our minds with the urging of other members of our tour group. We are so glad we did. It was another once in a lifetime experience. The Na Pali Coast is considered the most beautiful scenery in Hawaii….
April’s Embarrassing Childhood Photo
As promised, here is this month’s childhood photo. I knew that I would be on the cruise when I wanted this photo posted. I saved it to this laptop specifically to post it at Easter. It’s not really embarrassing. Every Easter my mom took us to downtown Alliance to buy new Easter outfits for church. We always had to pose for a photo. In almost…
