My anticipated surgery date is this Wednesday. To bring the casual followers of this blog up to date; I am undergoing weight loss revision surgery to remove my Lapband and revise it to Roux-en-Y (gastric bypass). It is complicated, and I am answering the five most common questions I people ask me.
2013 Greene Trails Cycling Classic
This past Wednesday I returned to Xenia and Greene County for the 2013 Greene Trails Cycling Classic (GTCC). Greene County has an amazing 62 mile network of paved multi-use trails that connect with trails in neighboring counties. This gives the Miami Valley a trail network of over 330 miles of paved trails. It is the perfect destination for the recreational off-road cyclist.
Five years and still weaving a tapestry of change
Today is the fifth anniversary of my Lapband weight loss surgery. I spent some time over the past weeks contemplating what I would blog about on this significant day. As I read my past blog posts, I found a common thread weaving through five years of my thoughts. Change is the thread that tied my journey together.
GOBA Day 7: Time flies and the miles roll on
Time does fly when you are having fun. I awoke Saturday all too obvious to that fact. My week at GOBA on my bike was ending. The sun rose early in Sidney as I packed my duffels and tent and loaded them into the van. My pal Paula and I were off early as we started our 42-mile ride to Urbana.
GOBA Day 6: The heat is on
I could attribute my early arrival into Sidney to the summer solstice. This is the day that the earth is most inclined to the sun. Perhaps this angle gave me a faster downhill coast during my 49 miles from New Bremen.
GOBA Day 5: Recharging our bodies, bikes and mobile devices
Today was a day of rest for much of GOBAville. I did not cycle the optional loop. I sleep in some and decided to enjoy the hospitality of New Bremen. It was a day to recharge; especially phones, iPads and tablets.
GOBA Day 4: Chasing church steeples
I woke before the alarm went off to a very cool tent. I zipped up the sleeping bag and snuggled in for a bonus 15 minutes of warmth. Soon, camp was loaded into the van, and I was on my bike for the 56 mile ride from Greenville to New Bremman.
GOBA Day 3: Farms, Fields and Flat Roads
It was a hot summer in the country on today’s 52 mile ride from Troy to Greenville. After a short ride through the edge of town, we were soon in rural Ohio farmland. It was a very flat ride.
