The alarm clock went off way too early this past Saturday morning. It was dark and wet outside as I crawled out of bed. I had registered for the Jack-O-Lantern Jog, a 5K that benefits a local YMCA. I had not run a 5K in over three months. I registered for it since it was a Halloween themed run in a costume for charity. It…
Exercise. Define your life
One of the fundamental changes I made in my life after weight loss surgery was to be a more active person. For most people, that means joining the local fitness center. I joined the YMCA numerous times in my life to fulfill my New Year’s resolution to be a healthier person. It seemed to be the logical move; force myself to work out through my…
Yes, it is indeed about the journey and not the miles
This past Sunday I was enjoying a late summer day of cycling the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath with my local bicycle club. We came upon a bicycle tourist. I recognized the telltale signs of a seasoned bicycle tourist; a bike laden with front and rear panniers (saddlebags), a sleeping bag and tent.
10 reasons to celebrate my life after weight loss surgery
I have become a very positive and forward looking person over the past few years. One of the revelations I had when I created my wellness vision was the fact that looking back and dwelling in the past gets me nowhere. You seem to be doing everything right and the weight loss comes to a screeching halt. Plateaus are a certainty on the journey.
To Health with Yourself
This past weekend I cycled the 165 mile 2-day Bike MS Pedal to the Point bicycle ride with some good friends and a new friend, Luke. I had chatted with Luke on an Obesity Help message board. Through our chatting, I found out that like me, Luke had found cycling as a love after weight loss surgery. Luke had also chosen to ride in my…
Looking back at the Greene Trails Cycling Classic
This past weekend I attended the Greene Trails Cycling Classic in Xenia, Ohio with my cycling buddies Marty and Paula. This four day cycling event is a tour of the bike trails in Greene and surrounding counties. A large network of paved trails offered a nice diversity of rides and locales. It was a well-planned and enjoyable weekend.
Failure is something I accomplish
I awoke at 5:30 AM this past Saturday. It was one of those anxious mornings when my restless body wakes just before the alarm goes off. This was a big day for me. I was going to check my first century bicycle ride off of my bucket list. The anxiety had been on my mind for the past couple of months and became more pronounced…
