Today I ended by pre-op Optifast diet. I weighed in at 231.5 this morning. That’s a 2 pound weight loss for the week with a total weight loss of 26.5 pounds for six weeks. I begin a clear liquid diet in preparation for tomorrow’s surgery. It will continue for the next 5 days. This will be my last post until late Thursday or early Friday…
Ikea, remodeling, surgery and fresh herbs
We had a nice weekend. On Saturday we went to Ikea in Pittsburgh to buy accessories for our remodeled kitchen. We are doing a lot of stainless with a slightly modern look. Ikea is a great place for that style. It was very busy, and we spent 2 hours shopping. Between us and Phil, we filled the back of the Pilot with our goodies. We…
hell’s kitchen
As if my operation and prep for it is not enough, our kitchen is completely torn apart. We decided this spring to upgrade our kitchen with granite countertops, glass tile backsplashes, wood floors, some cabinet changes and stainless steel appliances. We hired a contractor and expected the work to be complete by mid June. Guess what, they started few weeks ago and are just now…
my "test" run at the hospital
This morning I had my pre-admission testing for next Wednesday’s surgery. The surgeon had ordered some blood work to monitor my liver while I continue on the Optifast diet. I got to the hospital early and went to the outpatient walk-in testing to get the blood draw. Little did I know that they needed blood for my pre-admission testing. They had to draw it again…
5 down, 1 to go
I weighed in at 233.5 this morning. That’s a 2.5 pound weight loss for the week with a total weight loss of 24.5 pounds after five weeks of my Optifast diet. This is also a significant weight for me. It is the lowest weight that I have been at during the last 2 1/2 years. I was 234 pounds briefly after my heart attack recovery…
my morning at band camp
This morning I attended a 4 hour lapband homecare session for patients at my surgeon’s office. It was sort of like band camp for the day. It is part of a comprehensive program that patient’s being banded in the coming month must attend as part of his program. There were four other patients in the class with me. They were all female. I learned quite…
don’t take democracy for granted
Happy Independence Day! As we celebrate this patriotic holiday, I want to remind you not to take democracy for granted. This fall’s election is one where we will chose to move forward in unity or continue a path of division. The choice is evident. Watch the video below to see how grassroots involvement is working to change the direction of this country to a more…
signing on the line today
Today I moved closer to my lap band surgery. I started the day by filing my claim for short term disability for my recovery after surgery. It was quick and painless. I understand that it takes a week or so for the insurance company to approve it. I had an appointment with my surgeon later in the morning to sign my consent for the surgery….
