It was a busy Memorial Day weekend for Brett and I. We drove to Cleveland early Saturday morning to pickup our friends Al and Keith from Chicago. They had taken the Megabus red eye. We hope to try it sometime later this summer. It is a non-stop, low price bus that goes express between Cleveland and Chicago. They have many other Midwestern routes. It cost…
Finally scheduled
Today I got scheduled for my lapband surgery. It will be on July 16. It seems so far away. I am sure it will be here before I know it. I did have an unexpected thing. It turns out that the surgeon wants me to go on a 6 week Optifast liquid diet pre-surgery. That means that I start on it on June 3. June…
Mixed view of the Church
I struggle to find a single word that can describe my weekend at the Northeastern Ohio Synod Assembly. I can’t say that it was brutal or that it was affirming. It somehow lies between the two. It also depends on a particular time and place within the assembly. I think that I can summarize it in a single sentence: The synod assembly reflected the reality…
Ellen engaged
Today Ellen publicly announced that she intends to wed since same sex marriages will be legal in California. She gets a lot of flack since she has pretty much cleansed her show of any LGBT references. I think that it is sanitized for the Mid-America mentality that makes up most of her viewing audience. On the other hand, I don’t necessarily think that she needs…
Getting set for Synod Assembly
Early tomorrow morning I am off for a day at the Knight Center in downtown Akron for the Northeastern Ohio Synod ELCA assembly. I am coordinating the Lutherans Concerned and the Synod Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Task Force display in the resource fair. This is our second year of participating in the display area. We are basically on-hand to answer questions and distribute literature…
Same-sex couples win the right to marry in California!
Today, California’s highest court ruled that denying same-sex couples the right to marry is unconstitutional, granting loving, committed gay and lesbian couples the dignity and support their relationships have so long been denied. Read the whole story.
Gas Buddy
Have you checked out the price of gas! The chart to the left comes from http://www.gasbuddy.com/. This is a cool site. You can enter your ZIP Code or select a city from a map. It returns gas prices as reported by people in your area. I think that I will be using it with these prices.
Approved!
Today my lapband surgery was approved. It took just about the time I expected. I am glad that this phase is over. I am now waiting on the scheduling of my surgery and the pre-op liquid diet. I expect the surgery to be in mid June.
