The good news tonight was that the constitutional ban on same-sex marriage failed to pass the Senate. The 49 to 48 vote fell short of the 60 votes needed to end debate, thwarting President George W. Bush and his Republican puppet senators who argued that the Constitution must be amended to prevent judges from striking down existing state-level bans on gay marriage.
Republicans continue to drag this issue up to vote to draw attention away from the President’s almost non-existent approval rating, the war in Iraq and an ever-expanding array of Republican scandals. As they continue to reward their right wing “Christians”, they erode their moderate to liberal base.
Of course, Republican leaders in the House plan to introduce the legislation in the House. They plan on keeping it alive and divert the nation’s attention from their lack of leadership, poor morals and scandals acts.
