Caramel Apple Salad

My cousin Linda Aguilar first introduced me to this salad at a family reunion about five years ago. The ingredients may sound strange, but the taste is distinctively like a caramel apple. It’s a great cool down for a picnic on a hot day or potluck in the fall when apples are plentiful.

6 2 ¼ ounce Snickers bars, chilled and chopped
6 Granny Smith apples, cored and chopped into bite sized pieces
1 12 oz. container Cool Whip
1 5 oz. box instant butterscotch pudding mix
½ cup caramel ice cream topping

Mix the Cool Whip and dry pudding mix together. Stir in chopped apples. Stir in chopped Snickers bars (reserve ¼ cup for topping). Pour into a serving bowl.

Slightly heat caramel ice cream toping in a microwave- just enough to drizzle, but not hot enough to heat up salad. Sprinkle reserved chopped Snickers bars over salad. Finish by drizzling caramel ice cream topping over salad.

Chill for at least an hour.
