Post-op exercise assessment

Today I had my 1st post-op exercise assessment at the Green Summa/YMCA Rehab Center. My pre-op session was so informative. I was looking forward to today’s assessment. I like the exercise trainer who works with me. I find her very motivating and informative.

It was different than I expected. Today was all about setting up a healthy and beneficial exercise plan for me. We spent time talking about what I wanted to achieve and what my likes are in terms of exercise. She put together a nice workout routine for me that included warm-up and stretches, weights and cardio. It was a long appointment lasting 90 minutes.

We spent about 45 minutes in the YMCA working on the weight machines. I have been so intimidated to ever use these machines. We worked through them; learning how to operated them. I did 1 or 2 sets of 8-10 repetitions on the six machines she selected for me. We also looked at varying my cardio workout from the treadmill. I loved the elliptical trainer.

So here is the plan we worked out. I am going to continue my treadmill routine but up the intensity level and not the time. I moved 25% faster on my walking test than I did in June. On at least 3 of the days, I am going to do the stretch and warm-up exercises I learned. I want to add in the weights and cardio. I am planning to join either the Tallmadge Rec Center or the Westfield Health Club. I am going to do the weights 3 times a week with 30 minutes on the elliptical.

That’s my plan for moving forward. I was very happy with how the morning turned out. I am so much more informed and more confident on using exercise equipment.

Isn’t it fun starting to work out? Just remember that but by bit you’ll feel stronger and more confident and soon you’ll be a bonafide muscle guy
