our visit to the rainforest

Today was a sunny hot day in San Juan. We decided to take a scenic drive along the ocean. Our hotel’s bell captain recommended a drive that took us to El Yunque National Rainforest and Luquilla. It was a very pleasant day and enjoyable drive.

The rainforest turned out to be a terrific time. After our visit to the park information center, we were off to La Coca Falls. This waterfall was along the main park road. We were able to climb the rocks along the falls. Our next stop was the Yokahu Tower that had beautiful view of the rainforest, beaches and Atlantic Ocean.

We ended our rainforest tour with a hiking the Big Tree Trail to La Mina Falls. Big Tree trail is about 0.8 miles long one way and drops about 160 ft drop in elevation. It was moderately difficult but was worth the hike. The falls have pools at various levels where people can swim and sit under the falls.

We ended our road trip with dinner in Luquilla at a nice Puerto Rican restaurant where I had fish tacos. I loved them! After a short drive along a beautiful beach, we headed back to the hotel.

Tonight we drove to Old San Juan to attend an informal cocktail party with about 100 members of our tour group. It was nice meeting these guys and getting to know a few. We ended the day in the hot tub relaxing and snacking on sushi afterwards.

Tomorrow morning we are off to visit and tour Old San Juan. It looks like a nice place to spend some time. In the afternoon, we will board the ship for our cruise. We are so looking forward to the week of relaxation.
