I must confess that I didn’t expect to post a recipe for pesto on this blog. Pesto is not a diet friendly food. It is usually served in main dishes tossed with loads of pasta and parmesan cheese. What pesto does have going for it is its strong flavor and taste. As with any high fat food, it can be used in moderation to add…
Cherry Chicken Salad
This past weekend my partner Brett and I bought a rotisserie chicken at Sam’s Club. These are such a buy, especially if you are on a bariatric diet. We get many meals from this less than $5 purchase. The chicken is always moist and the flavor is very deep. It is one of the best shortcuts you can have in the kitchen. A roasted chicken…
2 weeks post-op update
I can’t believe that it is now 2 weeks since my surgery. I am doing extremely well. I have had no problems and no pain this week. My diet is returning to normal. I am now eating softer regular food. I’ve had salmon, a cheeseburger wrap and grilled chicken. Last night I made chicken salad from some leftover rotisserie chicken. It will be my lunch….
White Bean Vinaigrette Salad
This simple, tasty bean salad, popular in France, comes from my cardiac rehab dietitian. Its flavor becomes more intense when left in the refrigerator overnight. This is ideal for a bariatric patient. Pack this salad into the Gladware ½ cup containers for a lunch or dinner side. It keeps well for a week or so in the refrigerator. As you follow my recipes you will…
1 week post-op
I can’t believe my weight his morning! It’s a 10 pound loss since surgery. It’s been a relatively smooth week for me. The pain is gone; I am eating well; I am never hungry; and I am walking 2 miles daily. I did not expect to be at this point a week ago. This morning I also had my 1 week post-op visit to the…
setting weight loss goals
A success factor in living a healthier life after weight loss surgery is the setting of goals related to achieving a goal weight. As a goal oriented person, I rely heavily on goals in my personal and business life. If you have followed this blog over the years, you know that I already measure my health by a heart health report card. It’s is a…
4 days post-op
It’s 4 a.m. and I am wide awake. I was so tired last night that I went to bed last at 9:30 p.m. These early morning wake-ups seem to be norm for me after surgery. I did the same thing after my heart surgery 3 years ago. The good news is that it is day 4! I can have some more solid food, actually still…
welcome to bandlandia
Hello folks! I am back from the hospital fitted with my lapband. The term bandlandia comes from on-line communities where the surgery is discussed. It signals a person’s movement from pre to post surgery. My operation went smoothly. Brett and I were up early to be at the Summa same day surgery center at 6:00 a.m. Time went pretty fast. Within 15 minutes I was…
