:=) I read in today’s newspaper that the smiley face emoticon is 25 years old today. Twenty-five years ago, Carnegie Mellon University professor Scott E. Fahlman says, he was the first to use three keystrokes a colon followed by a hyphen and a parenthesis as a horizontal ”smiley face” in a computer message. We all know the typical smileys. 🙂 🙁 😉 How about these?…
Weight Watchers: Week 14
It was status quo this week. I didn’t lose and didn’t gain. I stayed the same. It’s the first week I didn’t lose. It happens. So, we’ll see what next week brings. 250 is so, so close. I weighed-in at 250.6 with my total loss to date at 17.6 pounds.
Saturday at the Marketplace
It was a perfect autumn weekend, cool and crisp. I spent Saturday morning at the Hartville Marketplace. He farmer’s market was at its peak this week. Fruit and vegetables were at their cheapest. The quality was so high with so many local folks selling. I always let the specials dictate what I will be buying. I bought some beautiful ripe Roma tomatoes and several different…
Senator Larry Craig busted on podcast
Each week I download group of pod casts that I listen to on my drive to and from work. It’s an interesting mix of NPR, bear, gay and comedy pod casts. I love the spontaneity of these pod casts. Some are not of the best quality but are entertaining. Feast of Fools, billed as the most downloaded gay podcast, is one of those entertaining pod…
Weight Watchers: Week 13
Add together that I haven’t weighed-in for 2 weeks, eating fat at the Canfield and Stark County Fairs, and hosting a Labor Day picnic, I felt like I would have my first gain at Weight Watchers. I was pleasantly surprised to weigh-in at 250.6 and lost .8 pounds bringing my total loss to date to 17.6 pounds. This is the slowest weight loss plan I…
The ELCA returned home and…
It’s been a month since the ELCA Churchwide Assembly. 2,000 ELCA members returned home to their work and church. I have been reflecting this past month on what has changed or not changed since the assembly. I’ve periodically checked out the ELCA, CORE, Word Alone, Good Soil and Lutherans Concerned web sites. Reactions were pretty predictable on those passionate on both sides of the same-sex…
Abby Update
Many of our friends know that Abby, our 11 year old dachshund has been undergoing cancer treatment over the past 4 months. She’s had 4 weeks of radiation and 16 weeks of chemotherapy. A few weeks back I was going to post on how well she came out of it all. That night I had to rush her to the animal clinic. Her leg had…
Canfield Fair
It was day 2 for county fairs! Brett and I decided to spend Labor Day at the Canfield Fair. It is one of the biggest county fairs in Ohio. It actually rivals the Ohio State fair. It was sunny and hot, perfect fair weather. Mahoning and neighboring Columbiana Counties have a lot of farm land, especially orchards. This results in a traditional fair with plenty…
