dutch and french st. maarten and orient beach

Hot sunny weather greeted us again this morning in Phillipsburg, the capital of Dutch St. Maarten as we ate breakfast on deck again. We could get used to a life like this. We were off early to a whole day excursion. We started with a driving tour of the Dutch side of the island. We stopped to shop at an island marketplace where the prices were amazing. We finished with tour of the French side.

In late morning we arrived at Orient Beach, our destination for the afternoon. It was a beautiful white sandy beach with turquoise water. We ate at the beachside café and had drinks at the hula hut bar. It had a lot of local flavor. Islanders walked the beach hawking their wares. There were jewelry, t-shirts, hats, and other items. I bought a cool beach towel that turns into a backpack. This was one of the best islands for shopping. We spent the evening at a special comedy show by the Nellie Olsens and a little gambling in the casino.
