I have been working with other Lutherans Concerned Regional Coordinators and the Good Soil legislative team on assisting local teams with introducing resolutions pertinent to GLBT people at synod assemblies across the ELCA. Much of this action surrounds the outcome of the trial of Pr. Bradley Schmeling of Atlanta. After a few months of assembly gatherings, the results of our efforts are promising. 9 assemblies…
The Splendid Table
I have become a real fan of an NPR podcast, The Splendid Table. Lynne Rossetto Kasper from Minnesota is the host. If you are a foodie, I urge you to check it out. It’s a mixture of high-brow, low-brow and everything in-between cuisine. Unfortunately, no NE Ohio NPR ratio station carries the show. So, you will have to listen to the podcasts. Each episode usually…
Finally, a new childhood photo
I realized that it’s been several months since I posted a childhood photo. I had intended to do that once a month. This photo is cross-posted on my Bearly Edible Recipe Challenge blog. Judging from my sister’s size, it was taken in the summer of 1957. My guess is that it was taken at the Hungarian picnic which we attended every year. My grandmother Meri…
Happy Mother's Day
Today is Mother’s Day when we honor out mothers. My mom is a very traditional 1950’s stay-at-home mother. We always had a full dinner every night. She was an excellent cook. Her spaghetti and meatballs was a favorite of the neighborhood kids. We frequently had guests on Wednesday, spaghetti night. Alas, that is one recipe of my mothers that I do not have. My mother…
Abby Returns!
Last night we picked Abby up from Brett’s parent’s house. She has been in Columbus for the past 4 weeks getting radiation treatments for a cancerous tumor on her rear leg. She is doing extremely well. Her leg needs to be bandaged for several weeks and changed daily. That was chore today! She starts 8 chemotherapy treatments this week. She’ll have one every other week…
Happy Birthday to Me
Today is my birthday. This morning I stopped on my way to work to buy donuts for my group at work. It’s their tradition that the person having the birthday buy donuts for the group. It seems reversed from what I am used to. I asked for advice on where to buy them in the Wadsworth area. Anne’s Pastry Shop in Downtown Wadsworth just north…
Sunny Weekend
What a super weekend! On Saturday we went on a mystery trip with some folks from church. Well.. not to us. I coordinate these quarterly trips. They are always enjoyable, and we get a different group each time. This trip was mostly widows. Brett and I had a ball with them. We started at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens in University Circle. I have never been,…
Transported back to the 60s
Friday night was our last night in Las Vegas. We made it a very special evening by starting with dinner at Mon Ami Gabi, the French sidewalk steakhouse at Paris. It has won numerous awards for its cuisine. It was superb. We both had excellent dinners I had halibut and Brett had pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon. It was pricey, but we recommend it for…
